Most Romantic Memory

Well, about 15 years ago i was 22 years old and it was late october in connecticut.. i had to hich hiike home to upper michigan. i only had $7.00 and a box of about 10 monnpies that got from my aunts house in my napesake,, so i started hich'n rides, upper new york was beutifull in the fall, the ride war going well, i remember one moment perfectly sitting in the back seat of this old cadillac enjoying the ride and the view of the red and orange trese and rolling hills with the window cracked enough to smell the crisp fall air filled with sunlight and the fresh sweet smell of my 4TH moon pie that i just ate, that moment is stuck in my head and held safe as how life was for me in that era.

Well night time came and i was let off near niagra falls, the falls were all lite up at night at that moment i saw this girl about 40 feet from me leaning against the rail gazeing at the falls as i was,, she looked lonely, at least i hoped because i was a little,, i walked along the rail a little closer then i stopped as i got a better look,,, wow she was beutifull long straight brown hair with a light fringe suede jacket with faded jeans. she looked about my age. she turnned and looked at me and said how did you get here, as if she knew me, i said do i know you. she said o sorry i thought you were some i once knew. i said were are you from and she said kentuky. i said i was from connecticut but i live in upper michigan now and i was cutting through canada to get home. she said she was working in a small town close to niagra. but 2 days ago her lugage was stolen from her near the airport, she was heading back to her mothers house in kentucky. she had been hanging around the falls all day wondering what to do. her mother was very poor so she could not call for money.

S o i asked her if she was hungry and she said yes very. that is when i said i have some moon pies and she started to chuchle in such a cute way, i was melting, she said what's your name i said bill, she said that hers was yolanda, it means iris the flower. at that moment i told her that she was a pretty as an iris,,, then she told me in kentucky that she and her friends would sit at the park and eat moon pies and a mr. pibb soda pop and that they go together perfect. i said lets get a mr.pibb at that consection stand. it looked as if it was just shutting down but the guy was listening to the radio and cleaning up. i knew i only had $ 7.00 but i did not care i would do any thing for yolanda. so we walked up and asked the guy for a mr. pibb and he said=what=, we chuckled,, i said how about a dr. pepper, we both knew that was close. he ya we got that i said we will have two please. that was $3.00.

so we got our sodas and sat on a small grassy hill looking over the falls. then the flood lights that shinned on the falls went out and all was left was the moon light on the falls, me and yolanda not saying much but eating our moon pies and dr.pepper and enjoying the moment. i knew she liked me i could just tell. then from the consetion stand radio came on neil diamonds =ketucky woman=,, i love neal diamond and it seemed to be a sighn. at that moment we gazed into each others eyes then in to our souls real deep then i drew closer and kissed yolanda with true love and she was just as delighted. the kiss was sumwhat short but to the point. we just smiled at each other. then she said you have moon pie on your lip. then we really laughed, we talked at the falls all night till morning and had moon pies for breakfast at the water fountian. we new enough about each other after talking all evening and night. we knew that this was just one of thoughs love at first sight moments. so i asked her to come to michigan with me and she said gladly and that i was her night in shinning armor, with moon pies,, that is an inside joke to this day.

so we were tired but it was time to get going so we went a few miles down to the next bridge to cross the falls. it was a bridge with a walk way. we walked across and at the other side was the canadian guards and they wanted ID's. well yolanda's was gone but i had mine but they would not let her in to CANADA. she looked at me as if i was going to leave her. i said to the canadians and her, well i guess we go to KENTUCKY and she smiled and huged me and back over the bridge we went and hick hiked to lexinton were he mother lived and she took me in. i got a job in a plastic factory and she worked in a bakery. we lived thier for 5 years very happy then her mother got sick and she was dieing. yolanda and i considered ourselves married but we were not legally. so we got married and her mother was very happy. well after her mother died we needed a change so we sold the house and moved to cornell michigan. we bought a small house in the woods on a river with a brook with step waterfalls flowing into to river right in front of the house,, so we went from niagra falls to hunters brook falls flowing into the escanaba river . we have a red doderman named cocoa. we are very happy and we still buy moon pies and alllways have them on our anniversery, april 25th.
